September 2024 Writing Update

I finished editing! Truly never thought this day would come, but here we are! It feels really good. Things are parsed down and now I’m working on printing out a paperback copy of draft one to have. This is multi-purposed, as it will be an editing tool for me as well as a trophy and remembrance of sorts. This is, after all, the first novel I have ever written. I should pat myself on the back for it, even if it does suck. Unfortunately, I’m not flexible enough for such maneuvers. So, I’ll have to settle for this self-congratulatory blog update instead.

In other news, I have shifted over to that other split-perspective narrative I was working on for fun here and there over the spring and summer. It’s been a nice reprieve, fun but still keeping the mental writing muscles working and engaged so I don’t lose my rhythm, so to speak. But, once I reach a natural stopping point or lull in the narrative’s pacing there, I fully intend to dive into draft two of the mystery novel. After the edit, I’ve got loads of ideas to simplify and streamline, and hopefully all of these enhance the story I want to tell.

For now, though, I’m stuck with my hardest challenge yet. Yes, figuring out what I should use as the required paperback cover for this Barnes and Noble print job. Guess I should take up photography or something and get to work on Canva…

Anyway, happy Mean Girls day to all who celebrate!
