October 2024 Review

Hmmm. Looks like I took a different meaning to the term “spooky” for this rotation around the sun. Rather than subject myself to horrors which prey on our most innate and human fears, making us uncomfortable in our seats and wary of every dark patch in the room, I elected to see the new Joker movie. Which, oddly enough, was probably a more horrifying experience than most of the other scary movies I’ve seen this year. Truly it was excruciating in an entirely new way. In this review, I talk about the very many commitment and confidence issues that Joker: Folie A Deux seems to have. Whether it’s the film’s theme, its musical numbers, its character arcs, or even emotional moments, it never really seems to be able to commit or deliver in any satisfying way. In essence, it’s basically just if the famous musical-turned-movie Chicago was really bad.

So, check that out here on my YouTube channel. And, by the way, if you’re looking for a scary movie to watch this time of year, as you aren’t quite worn out on the seasonal vibes yet, I’d recommend Doctor Sleep. Really well made film with a lot to offer I felt like, and takes some elements of the classic The Shining and plays with them really well. Not terrifying, but certainly eerie. And if you don’t want anything scary at all, but are still looking for Halloween atmosphere, I suggest Totally Killer! A fun slasher-mystery watch that I thoroughly enjoyed.
