October 2024 Writing Update

Oh. It appears to be National Novel Writing Month. Funny how that seems to happen every November. Anyway, what to do about that? I suppose I should write a novel, considering that’s the subject most of the writing updates I’ve published in 2024 have been concerned with. But, you know, should I? That seems like a lot of work. Seems like a big commitment. Seems hard.

Though if all one of you who read my last writing update know anything, it’s that I was actually on track to start the dreaded draft two of my murder mystery around this time. Yeah, unfortunately for me the timing works out perfectly. Just as I found some plot elements to tweak and some beats to streamline and compress, here November comes. Just as I get a hard copy of draft one delivered to my doorstep. Right in time for me to use said hard-copy as a invaluable piece of reference material when writing out its successor. Terrible how things work out like that, right?

Anyway, at least for November 1, maybe I can consider making this post and the short review blurb contribute toward the desired 1,500 words per day. Can I? I can’t? Well, then why I am blabbering on in this blog post in the first place? Procrastination? I hardly know her.

No, but in actuality, I type this up on my lunch break, wondering if I spend the first few days of November closing the thread on a Halloween short story I’ve been working on, or if I dive headlong into the next rendition of this whodunit. My heart tells me one thing, but my mind another...

Game time decision after work today.
