February 2025 Review

Woah! Two reviews to choose from in one month? What is this? The Golden Age or something? Inflation? Probably the second one, if we’re being honest. Anyway, this month I watched Conclave and Wolf Man. Both very different movies in almost every conceivable way. Especially when it comes to their quality. I really enjoyed Conclave. I found it mysterious, captivating, and unique. I thought the topics it touched upon and themes it explored were really fleshed out and pretty unique, especially for a modern movie that covers the Catholic Church and the vices / corruptions of its leadership. As for Wolf Man? AKA “MAN” The Movie? Not so much an enjoyer. It had some interesting ideas, but was never quite strong enough to really feel like it explored them. The drama of it was undercut by what I felt was weak dialogue. The tension was undercut by a cast that was too small from a functional standpoint. The monster-ness was undercut by a monster that really wasn’t even a monster more than it was some dude. Overall it left me wanting in a lot of different areas, but there were some really solid high points, too.
